Prayer Works
If you ever get to a place in your life where you feel like something is missing, it's probably a connecting problem: you are disconnected from God and too connected to the world. Prayer connects us with God and His power which changes what we can't and invites God to do what only He can do.
We would love to walk alongside you. Please share how we can lift you up in prayer.
Fasting
The Goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God.
Fasting in one of the least know disciplines in the church, but it is a practice mentioned both in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible and by Jesus Himself, and it has incredible power for our lives today.
Fasting disconnects us from the world.
Fasting isn’t about punishing yourself because God wants you to suffer , rather it is about intentionally disconnecting from worldly things for a season so you can hear from God and experience the full life He has for you.
Scripture References of Fasting
“And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
One day the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and asked him, “Why don’t your disciples fast like we do and the Pharisees do?” Jesus replied, “Do wedding guests mourn while celebrating with the groom? Of course not. But someday the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else: “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the people of Israel were assembled with fasting and in sackcloth, and with earth on their heads. And the Israelites separated themselves from all foreigners and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a quarter of the day; for another quarter of it they made confession and worshiped the Lord their God.
Types of Fasts
This type of hast involved removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you. remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.
In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.
This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food on the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific time of the day, such as 6:00am to 3:00pm, or from sunup to sundown.
This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance.
For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
